I have personally brewed hundreds of these baths and settled moms and newborns in to relax, heal and bond. For decades mothers have looked me in the eye and sighed with relief and comfort as they have used this herbal bath to

  • Soothe their bruised and swollen tissues

  • Reduce the sting and swelling of hemorrhoids

  • Bring comfort after the catheter and IVs are removed

  • Ease painful urination after a long labor

  • Soak off epidural tape residue

  • Bring rapid relief to nipples sore from breastfeeding

  • Relax into a pleasant, wonderfully aromatic bath for self-care

And for the baby

  • Have their first bath, with their mother

  • Rapidly heal the cord site

  • Ease pain and promote healing after a circumcision or bris

Indigo Forest’s properly prepared herbal bath combines potent ingredients and careful directions for safe healing in situations in which you should otherwise not be soaking in water; such as after vaginal or cesarean birth.

β€œI’ve honed this recipe over years of mother/baby care to go above and beyond - knitting mothers back together at every level.

Each of these organic ingredients were thoughtfully selected for their healing properties and highly effective potency. We source only the best quality and package quickly and in air-tight containers.

  • Calendula’s botanical name is Calendula officinalis. It has been called a β€˜Skin Superstar’ with a reputation for speeding wound healing and minimize scarring from Rashes, bites, stings, burns, cuts, scrapes, bruises, rashes, and acne, which all typically respond well to calendula. This member of the marigold family helps to reduce pain and swelling by bringing down the inflammation of an irritation or injury; its antimicrobial properties help to prevent infection as the wound heals. It's an astringent, which, for instance, helps to dry up the newborn cord site. Calendula is used for sunburns, radiation burns, and thermal burns, and combines synergistically with comfrey for accelerated wound healing.

  • Comfrey has been called the King of healing plants and is second to none to speed up and insure the proper healing of wounds. It’s botanical name, Symphytum officinale, means β€œto grow together”, reflecting its ability to reconnect wounded flesh and broken bones.

Comfrey is anti-inflammatory, astringent and anti-hemorrhagic. Its topical use is famous among herbalists for supporting wound healing, broken bones, sprains & strains, bites, stings, rashes, burns, ulcers, and diminishing or eliminating scars.

  • Lavandula x intermedia is the botanical name of the distinctive, fragrant, purple flowers of Lavender. This beautiful herb has over 2500 years of recorded use as a gentle tonic to strengthen the nervous system. It is used to treat states of depression, exhaustion, anxiety and irritability, and to promote natural sleep. Lavender is specifically indicated for β€˜depressive states associated with digestive dysfunction’, which includes depressive headaches and colic. Along with its aromatherapy benefits, Lavender brings antimicrobial and antiviral properties to the healing nature of the traditional herbal bath.

  • Salt is an essential ingredient for its antimicrobial properties, reducing the risk of infection by altering the permeability of bacteria’s cell walls.

Irritated, dry and scaly skin are eased with salt baths, while also relieving soreness and pain. The warm salty water is considered invaluable home treatment for hemorrhoids and anal fissures. These highly absorptive minerals boost our resistance to illness and disease. Indigo baths currently use Himalayan salt.

  • Symphytum officinale, known as Comfrey, has been found throughout recorded history as a healing plant as far back as 400 BC. It has long been used for a diverse range of injuries and accidents, and especially to stop bleeding and help heal broken bones. Comfrey leaves and roots synergistically share similar medicinal qualities, while roots tend to concentrate certain properties.

Comfrey’s combination of soothing mucilage and wound-healing allantoin make it an excellent treatment for ulceration, and for knitting skin back together. Allantoin is used in many skin products to hydrate and soothe skin because its anti-irritant properties.

β€œI have used Indigo Forest's herbal baths in my medical practice, WomanSafeHealth, for over 15 years to promote and speed tissue healing and reduce pain dramatically after gynecological procedures and perineal repairs after childbirth, as well as on other biopsy sites, open wounds, breast infections and where cancer has grown. The baths are uniformly healing, safe, lesson pain and can be applied in liquid form or as a compress or a poultice. I usually advise adding fresh garlic to improve immunity and decrease infection. They are also wonderful just to relax in after a long day.

  • β€œThe herbal bath is so soothing to the post birth body and skin. I felt such relaxation. We love the familiar smell. There is also something so powerful about the preparation of the bath and feeling taken care of by the household and family.β€œ

  • β€œWe used herb baths both for healing and bonding postpartum. After missing our golden hour due to c-section complications, the baths were some of our sacred skin-to-skin time. The herbal baths were very soothing for my incision and general after-birth-puffiness. I also noticed it helped a lot for baby's umbilical cord healing --much cleaner and less stinky. Would definitely recommend and plan to give some to friends and family.β€œ

  • β€œWe used Indigo Forest’s herbal baths when our first was teething and had a sore bum from a couple runny teething poops! :-) It’s GREAT for that, too! It has healed several sore diaper bums for our kids, in addition to helping their cords be a lot less stinky after birth.”

  • β€œWe absolutely love these baths. They are so easy to use, my husband always made them up for baby and I. They are so soothing and relaxing. I tore with both of my births and noticed such a difference in healing when I used the baths regularly. Both of my daughters cords smelt better, healed quicker and looked great as well! They smell amazing, and are just truly so soothing and enjoyable. I also made a small batch and put in my peri bottle for quick rinses, or to be used with a clean rag. These are a must have for after birth!”

  • β€œHerbal baths were one of the highlights of my days as a new mom. I could not wait to get in the bath and soak my bottom. After stage 4 tearing from a forceps birth, the herbal bath is exactly what I needed. I was able to heal fairly quickly and it definitely reduced my pain.β€œ

  • β€œWe loved the herbal baths! In fact, whenever anyone asks me what I would put on my postpartum list for new moms...it's these baths! It helped with healing and it was a wonderful bonding experience after the birth of our son. My husband loved making them for us. We are expecting again and will definitely be stocking up on more herbal baths!”

  • β€œI suffered a 4th degree tear in my 1st birth in 2014 and my healing was extremely slow and painful. I chose a homebirth for my 2nd baby in 2020 and despite our best efforts my tear reopened to the 3rd degree. I used herbal baths every other night - by 2.5 weeks postpartum I was walking a mile around my neighborhood! Pure magic! I was so grateful to have healed so quickly and so well from this birth! Added bonus - my baby also enjoyed the baths with me and his cord stump was gone within a week!”

  • Our family loves our β€œtea baths” as we refer to them. Not only do they provide a great foundation for postpartum healing for mom and baby, they also provide a great foundation for family bonding. Somehow herbal baths always become a family affair, from steeping and preparing them to enjoying them - everyone loves to be involved! And they continue to serve our family as the kids grow. We have used them for diaper rash, skin irritations, scooter wipeouts, etc. I always keep a few on hand and use any excuse to fill our home with the amazing smell that takes me back to the early days of my babies being first born. It’s truly what love smells like.
