What to Keep in Your Natural Health Toolbox This Spring
When I got this text from my son—normally a stoic and very busy college senior—I knew he was really sick:
"I am feeling quite sick. Gonna head home shortly."
Shortly after came this update:
"Headache, major chills and very cold. Like shaking, I am so cold. Yah, a little nausea."
As I started to pull together some things for him from our natural medicine supplies, I was chagrined to see that I hadn’t replaced some of our most relied-on remedies after the winter illnesses. I was so relieved that we were all ‘over it’ that I had let down my guard. If you’re familiar with the recommendations in my Get Well Soon course, even my kitchen supplies were a little pathetic as I found only 2 tired lemons in the fruit bowl and the ginger moldy in the fridge. Arg!
It was the homeopathic kit that saved the day since the sugar pellets dissolve quickly – perfect medicine when nausea or actual vomiting is part of the symptom picture. I rotated through 4 different remedies and several hands-on techniques through the afternoon in between his feverish naps. One of the best was homeopathic Eupatorium, which matched his extreme symptoms of “intense pain in the bones, as if the bones are broken; excruciating back ache during a fever; chill that begins in the small of the back.” It’s a remedy long valued for its use with Influenza symptoms. Even I was surprised when it was only 6 hours later that he was able to smile wanly and ask for soup! 🙌

🧒 Children’s Vitamins
You may want to consider a general supplement for your child to help fill in nutritional gaps, support their immune health, or give them a boost during stressful times. Choices include:
Liquid Multi – such as Liquid Kids Multi (Trace Minerals Research)
Gummy Multi – such as Zero Sugar Kids Multi-Vitamin Gummies (Nordic Naturals)
DHA – such as Kids Chewable DHA Orange (Carlson Labs)
🧠 General Health for Grown-ups
Most adults will benefit from general supplementation of vitamins and minerals to slow cognitive aging and preserve brain health, fill in dietary gaps, and nourish metabolic pathways that support cellular health and enhanced energy. Men too!!
MultiVitamin – PrimalMulti (Designs for Health)
Trace Minerals – ConcenTrace Mineral Drops (Trace Minerals Research)
Omega-3s – OmegaGenics EPA-DHA 720 Fish Oil (Metagenics)
🌼 Seasonal Allergies
Allergies are the torment of many, these are two of the most effective natural approaches for relief. Also consider Nettle tea, local honey, neti pots, and making sure bowels are moving normally several times/day. You may need more, but this is a solid start.
NuMedica Seasonal Shield (NuMedica)
Homeopathic blends – AllergyCalm Kids Tabs (Boiron Homeopathics), effective for adults too
🤰 Healthy Pregnancy
Because we are now in the 3rd generation of less nutrient-dense food (even if organic), compounded with more exposure to more contaminants, I encourage women to supplement at least some of the basics - a general multi for pregnancy (without folic acid, look that up or hang around if this is new to you), trace minerals, and Omega 3’s for baby’s brain.
Prenatal – Pre-Natal Packs (Biotics) or PlusOne Daily Prenatal Packs (Metagenics)
Minerals – ConcenTrace Mineral Drops (Trace Minerals Research)
Absorbable Iron – Floradix Iron + Herbs Liquid Herbal Supplement (Floradix)
Omega-3s – OmegaGenics EPA-DHA 720 Fish Oil (Metagenics)
MIDWIFE NOTE: If you take extra Omegas/fish oils beyond your prenatals, I highly recommend pausing or going to a very minimal amount from week 37 until after birth. Fish oil makes blood slippery—and birthing mothers need blood to not be too slippery after the placenta is delivered for proper clotting.
